This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "Elegant Lady Dress Shop". A very rare piece. The sign above the door should read "Elegant Lady", but was missed during the painting of this piece. The picture is NOT the actual picture of this piece. Email me for a picture of this piece. It is also personally signed by the now deceased Mr. George Lefton. Tillie Johnson was one of lady entrepreneurs in Colonial Village. She owned and ran The Elegant Lady Dress Shop. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "Fire Engine Co. No. 5". It was retired in 2000. No other building in the Village was as important as the fire station that housed Engine Company No. 5. At the time, every light and source of heat was an open flame. Opportunity for accidents abounded. A spooked cat might tip over a window candle and set curtains ablaze. Grease from a skillet could ignite, spill and create a river of flame. A single spark could spell disaster. When it did, the men in red suspenders would don their gear and come aclanging to save the day. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Series. It is called the "Green Grocer". As the population grew, business grew along with it. Specialty stores thrived. Among them was Jason Green's grocery that specialized in fresh produce. Jason had grown up on a farm so he knew his fruits and vegetables. But he liked people as much as plants and decided to move into town and become a merchant rather than a grower. He was always the first to offer specialties of the season, and sold only the pick-of-the-crop. The Greens lived above the shop where they raised their family. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Series. It is called the "Greystone House". It was retired in 1995. Homes like the Greystone owe much to their French origin. The Mansard roof, named for the Parisian designer, is a case in point. The nearly vertical roof face, topped with a flat ceiling, made the upper floor more useable. Fashion followed function and the style was enormously popular in the late 1800's. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "Gull's Nest Lighthouse". Built in the early 1800's, before electricity, the lighthouse that marked the bay, and warned of a sandbar, was illumi- nated by an oil lamp. That meant the lighthouse keeper in those years--a reclusive man named Miles O'Keefe was the "keeper of the flame" rather than simply the custodian of the structure. His was an important, if solitary job. He fueled the lamp, trimmed the wick and polished the prisms that magnified and mirrored the light. He did it faithfully, seven days a wek for fifty-five years.
