This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Series. It is called the "Joseph House". The Joseph House is a dream come true. A man of modest means, Grandpa Joseph promised his wife and mother of their six children that "someday I'll build you a castle". It took longer than he'd hoped, but true to his word, he built the house himself with help from local carpenters. That was many years and two generations ago. Today, lovingly restored to its original grandeur, the Joseph House is still in the family. Granddaughter Rosalie and her husband Tom enjoy both the home and its heritage. Since Lefton has changed ownership, this collection is no longer being produced. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Series. It is called the "Lakehurst House". Like most young couples, when Adam Hurst and Nancy Lake were married, they dreamed of building a home. They worked hard. With a modest loan and a small inheritance, they built their dream house. It was a simple, two-and-a-half story frame structure with a dormer and in- tersecting gable. To honor their families, they called it "Lakehurst". This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Series. It is called the "Village Library". The library's opening in 1876 was an auspicious occurrence. Not only did the event coincide with the nation's centennial, it marked the cultural coming of age of the community. Few towns the size of Colonial Village could boast a building solely devoted to works of literature. Building the library proved faster than filling it with bound books. Villagers donated their own precious volumes and formed a book-a-month club. Members each pledged to donate enough to buy a dozen new editions annually. Therefore, this series is no longer available in the retail market except for pieces that they just happen to have in stock. The "Li'l Red Schoolhouse" you've read about wasn't fiction. It really did exist, as you can see, right here in Colonial Village. Built to replace what had been a "temporary" school for twenty years, community volunteers constructed it to last a long time--and it has. They not only raised the building but built the desks and benches for the classroom. Up- stairs, they created cozy living quarters for the univer- sity-trained schoolmistress they'd recruited. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Series. It is called the "Mulberry Station". Because the train station would provide most newcomers with their first impression of Colonial Village, folks wanted it to be a good one. The building had to provide a friendly welcome, not just be imposing architecturally. The result achieved both. It was more picturesque than pretintious. The impressive clocktower was certainly a functional focal point, but it climbed above a simple slate roof that capped a modest frame structure of pleasant proportions and well detailed design that said "Welcome!". A degree of discipline had to have been present simply to preserve sanity, but the boys achievements suggest it was more. Village schools honor rolls still list each of their names and old trophies attest to their athletic abilities. Today, the O'Malley name lives on with their sons' sons who practice medicine, law, teach, follow trades and keep shops. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Series. It is called the "Notfel Cabin". When Silas Notfel first settled in the area now known as Colonial Village, he lived in a rustic, two-room cabin which was formerly a trading post. Purchased for a season's worth of beaver pelts, the structure was constructed of frame and wooden planks with a rubblestone foundation and extra heavy beams for added support. This solid foun- dation has enabled it to stand for almost three centuries. Today, under the watchful eye of the Colonial Village Historical Society, it serves as a reminder of the rich and varied history that marks the Village. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Series. It is called the "O'Doul's Ice House". Throughout the bitterly cold winter months in Colonial Village, Sean and Tommy O'Doul spend most of their working days at the river, chopping ice and carting it back to their ice house for storage. In warmer months they spend the days maintaining the temperatures inside, while delivering blocks of ice to their customers throughout the village. Sawdust from the Cabinetmakers Shop is periodically spread around the interior of the frame and clapboard structure in order to help maintain the ice blocks in their frozen state. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "Old Time Station". When the first iron horses came whinnying their way into town, reined only by rails, they stopped at the Old Time Station. Rail- roads quickened the pace of life, making it possible to cover distances in days that took wagons weeks. The speedy steel steeds carried more, faster, farther and cheaper. People as well as things. Perhaps their most important cargo was news. A train's arrival turned the railroad station into a social center abuzz with conver- sation as weel as a platform of commerce. Since Lefton has changed ownership, this collection is no longer being produced. Therefore, this series is no longer available in the retail market except for pieces that they just happen to have in stock. It is in excellent condition; no cracks, chips, or repairs.
