With his white apron, black garters on his short sleeves and his accent, "Worthy' brought a touch of Merrie Old England to the town. Lefton. It was said that the scholarly proprietor of the book shop, Jason Brown, had read every book he ever sold. That's unlikely, but he was known to give customers glowing reviews that made them want to buy and they were seldom disappointed with his recommendations. The shop was a little run down on the outside and a jumble inside, reflecting the owner's preoccupation with words rather than things. He loved the language and shared that affection with his patrons. On a rainy or snowy afternoon, there was no cozier place to be than at Brown's. Townsfolk wondered who in the world could possibly use all the space...much less af- ford it. The Andrews family ended the speculation. They moved in with their eleven children and two sets of grandparents! They were able to live more grandly together than they could have separately. In fact, his works was so much in demand that customers often waited as much as 6 months for a special piece of furniture or repair. It was then that Zachary sent for his Father, and teacher, to come join him in the business, where the two worked side-by-side to estab- lish the reputation for quality that is still synonymous with the name Peters to this day. Harriet had fancy faux flowers, exotic feathers, ribbons, bows, bangles and beads of all shapes, sizes and colors to transform a basic hat into a personal fashion state- ment. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "City Hall". By the 1890's, Colonial Village had doubled in size and outgrown the original town meeting hall. Folks felt that any new building should celebrate the village's increased size and importance. The design was not only impressive but symbolic: there were double entry doors, twin chimneys, pairs of columns and windows in twos. When something needed to be decided, there were Open Meetings. Just about everyone attended in a demonstration of true participative democracy that exists to this day. Since Lefton has changed ownership, this collection is no longer being produced. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called the "Coffee & Tea Shoppe". On a cold, blustery winter day, there was nothing that could take the chill off like stopping for a steaming cup of Emily's specially blended tea or coffee. More than likely, someone you knew would be doing the same, so the warmth of conversation added to the experience. To keep things from becoming over-heated, two topics were taboo; politics and religion. It was a house rule then and it still is now. And most folks insist that the secret blends that Emily passed down are still the best they've ever tasted. Since Lefton has changed ownership, this collection is no longer being produced. Therefore, this series is no longer available in the retail market except for pieces that they just happen to have in stock. It is in excellent condition; no cracks, chips, or repairs. Even if they were just in town for the day, they'd more than likely take a meal in one of the restaurants.
