This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "The Toymaker". A favorite memory among children of all ages was the Toy Shop owned by the Clausenthathers. It was fun just to look in the win- dows at the colorful examples of their ingenuity and creativity: Whirligigs and whatcha-ma-jiggers, thing- a-ma-bobs, and topsy-turvies.....and the most magnif- cent rocking horses this side of a carousel. Sebastian and his wife, Selena, made everything they sold, entirely by hand, in the tiny work-room behind the store. Repro- ductions of their toys are still popular and sold in the shop. Since Lefton has changed ownership, this collection is no longer being produced. Therefore, this series is no longer available in the retail market except for pieces that they just happen to have in stock. It is in excellent condition; no cracks, chips, or repairs. It is marked "1990, Geo. Z. Lefton,07477,Toy Maker Shop". It lights from the back which includes a cord with a nightlight-type bulb and an on/off switch for ease in turning it off and on. The Lefton gold crown label and red and gold foil label is also attached. The Deed of Title is included. It measures approx- imately 8-1/4" tall, 7" wide at the base. A lovely addition to your own Christmas Village.
This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "Trader Tom's General Store". Trader Tom's was an institution in Colonial Village. They had a little bit of everything--for just about everybody--from seeds and implements for farmers to needles, thread and fabric for home sewers. Most folks were in and out of the General Store on a weekly basis and while they were there, they'd set a spell if they could spare the time and catch up on the local news and gossip. Times have changed but the practice hasn't and the old potbellied stove, in the center of the store, is where folks swap stories. Since Lefton has changed ownership, this collection is no longer being produced. Therefore, this series is no longer available in the retail market except for pieces that they just happen to have in stock. It is in excellent condition; no cracks, chips, or repairs. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "Vanderspeck's Mill". Nature provided the power to turn the blades of Vanderspeck's Mill. It took his ingenuity to harness it and put it to work. The Netherlands native saw no reason that, properly sited, a windmill wouldn't work as well in Colonial Village as it did in his homeland. He was right. It did. He built his windmill just as Sanderson's watermill had reached its capacity. There was more than enough grist for both as farms grew in both size and productivity. They comple- mented each other rather than competed. Since Lefton has changed ownership, this collection is no longer being produced. Therefore, this series is no longer available in the retail market except for pieces that they just happen to have in stock. It is in ex- cellent condition; no cracks, chips, or repairs. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "Victorian Apothecary". If you were feeling poorly, chances are you'd stop by to see "Doc" Jenkins at the Apo- thecary Shop. He'd size up the situation and prescribe something to cure your ills...or at least numb the pain. Many old time remedies contained impressive proportions of alcohol along with herbs like bloodroot, elm, mayapple, and sassafras. Before the town had its own doctor, folks relied on pharmacists to diagnose, prescribe, and even create cures. To be close to his medicines, Jenkins lived upstairs in the impressive Victorian building. Since Lefton has changed owner- ship, this collection is no longer being produced. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "Victorian Gazebo". Gazebos were popular expressions of Victorian architecture. In the summer they provided a place for young couples to enjoy a moment of privacy without a chaperone and, since they were open on all sides, still be considered "proper". In winter, they became the province of children who could imagine their snow-capped roofs to be miniature mountains...or castle turrets from which dragons could be slain. This gazebo is notable for its expert carpen- try with hundreds of hand-turned spindles and sawn brackets. Since Lefton has changed ownership, this collection is no longer being produced. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "Village Hospital". Like the County Courthouse and the Library, the Village Hospital was a matter of great pride. It was the first in the area and had no trouble attracting an expert staff thanks to Colonial Village's desirability as a place to live and work. Small and quaint by today's standards, it was state-of-the-art for its day with a "modern" surgery and foremost hygienic standards. It marked the maturing of the community to provide first-rate health care for the residents and for folks from miles around as its reputation spread. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "Village Inn". The Village Inn predated the fancy Ritz Hotel by over half a century. It had been the place to stay and its major claim to fame was that two Presidents had been guests. In its hey- day, a night's lodging cost fifty cents. A hot bath added a dime to the bill. And, for twenty cents, a breakfast of steak and eggs was served in the bay- windowed dining room. Today, a vist to this quaint and cozy Tudor-style inn will provide that the ameni- ties offered have kept pace with the times...and so have the prices.
