Since Lefton has changed ownership, this collection is no longer being produced. Therefore, this series is no longer available in the retail market except for pieces that they just happen to have in stock. There were some who questioned the real need for a Police Station in Colonial Village. The decision to build it was not in response to an increase in crime in the Village but by the general feeling that a progressive community should have a building dedicated to public safety. And, while they were at it, they might as well include an escape-proof jail--whether or not there were any desperados to occupy it. That's how the solid, secure brick structure with buttresses, granite steps, and a fancy facade came to be. It is in excellent condition; no cracks, chips, or repairs. It is marked "1987, Geo. Z. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "Stearn's Stable". Stables were the garages of horse-drawn generations past. Townsfolk who didn't have their own single-stall carriage house needed a place to quarter their horses. So did busi- nessmen who used horse and wagons for deliveries. Indeed, the term "livery" came fro the French word for delivery. Stearn's livery stable also rented horses and buggies to out-of-towners, for essential trans- portation, by the hour, day, or week. The stable still stands but the horses quartered there are sporting pets, not beasts of burden. Since Lefton has changed ownership, this collection is no longer being produced. Since Lefton has changed ownership, this collection is no longer being produced. Therefore, this series is no longer available in the retail market except for pieces that they just happen to have in stock. The Old Stone Church looks as if it might have been plucked right out of the English country- side. And, in a way, it was. Josiah Stone, whose house we have already seen, bequeathed the land, funds, and plans for the building of a church like the one in Cornwall, England, in which he was married. Stone came with his bride to Colonial Village where, through hard work and thrift, he managed to accumulate a modest fortune. Without heirs, he decided to leave a memorial to his wife. Since Lefton has changed ownership, this collection is no longer being produced. Therefore, this series is no longer available in the retail market except for pieces that they just happen to have in stock. The Stone House was named for more than the material it was made from. The man that built it was Josiah Stone. The Stone family emigrated from England. Even though there have been new owners, it has always been known as the Stone House. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "The Sweet Shop". The most popular store in the entire Village was Winnie's Sweet Shop. The aroma of chocolate and spices was like a magnet that drew people to and through the white-painted door into a sugar-coated wonderland. There, in glass cases, were at least a hundred ways to satisfy a sweet tooth. It was impossible to make a wrong decision. Everything was wonderful. Pan candies, caramels, toffees, brittles were "Any For A Penny". Price has gone up, but you still get more than your money's worth at the Sweet Shop. This is one of the many houses, buildings, figurines, and accessories in the Colonial Village Collection. It is called "Sweetheart Bridge". This is part of the Village's romantic past and present. It got its name from the custom that allowed a beau to kiss his girl in the shadows as they passed through. Considering the shortness of the span, the innocence of the activity was assured even in Victorian times. The bridge was built as a tollway in the mid 1800's. It saved miles which were not yet measured in mere minutes. That made the fare of a penny, if on foot, to a dime, crossing with horse and wagon, a square deal. Since Lefton has changed ownership, this collection is no longer being produced. Therefore, it is no longer available in the retail market except for pieces that they just happen to have in stock. It is in excellent condi- tion; no cracks, chips, or repairs. It is marked "1988, Geo. Z. Lefton.,06751". It is stamped with the Lefton gold crown and the red and gold foil label is also still attached. The "Deed of Title" is not available. It is in its original box.
